Chen's Ten Laws
1. Results of competition is correlated to how well you play; there is no causation. To be exact, the linear regression equation is y = 1.35642 + 4.35623x, with a coefficient of correlation of 0.235 and a coefficient of determination of 0.0553.
2. When ur friends have a massive party, you happen to have a recital or competition on the same day
3. When you have a performance you want people to attend, they somehow all have something else to do.
4. The piano's sound deteriorates as it enters your own house.
5. You happen to get a fingernail split right before a competition.
6. When you play a piece for the first time after having not played it for a long time, it'll sound great. And then when you start practicing it again, it'll go down the drain.
7. Just when you think u're having the time of ur life on stage, you'll get a memory slip.
8. Judges say that technique isn't the main thing they're looking for. but they like technique. and they're pretty much looking for that.
9. someone else's etude is never better than yours.
10. just when you think u were the youngest person to play a piece, u find out that someone three years younger than you did it.
(None of these are actually TRUISMs. but just play along will ya).
